Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) on Monday vowed to repeal a measure that prevents federal courts from halting the sale and planting of genetically engineered crops.

The Farmer Assurance Provision, dubbed the “Monsanto Protection Act” by critics, was quietly inserted into a short-term funding bill passed by Congress in March. The biotech rider allows farmers to buy and plant genetically engineered seeds while the regulatory approval of the crop is being challenged in court.

“The Monsanto Protection Act is an outrageous example of a special interest loophole,” Merkley said in a statement. “This provision nullifies the actions of a court that is enforcing the law to protect farmers, the environment and public health. That is unacceptable.”

“To avoid public scrutiny, the ‘Monsanto Protection Act’ was quietly and anonymously inserted into the continuing resolution passed this March to avert a government shutdown,” he explained.

Merkley said he would offer an amendment to the Senate farm bill that would repeal the controversial law, which is set to expire in September. However, agricultural groups like the American Soybean Association are expected to lobby for the farm bill to include the Farmer Assurance Provision.

“We applaud Sen. Merkley’s effort to repeal the Monsanto Protection Act. The ‘Monsanto Protection Act’ is an outrageous attempt by biotech giants like Monsanto and DuPont further consolidate their control of our nation’s food supply,” said Executive Director of Food Democracy Now! Dave Murphy. “For too long, Americans have been kept in the dark about the food that we eat and the science behind it because our elected officials are in the pockets of Monsanto. Inge's Comment:  As I was looking for some other gardening information, I ran across this little article on the use of ASPARTAME for getting rid of ANTS where they are not wanted.  (remember that ants also have a place in the ecosystem.) (So apparently Aspartame has a “useful use” after all.  -It was originally investigated as a bio-warfare agent – this should tell us something about its nature.)

Since this is the "gardening time" again, thought I would pass this along to fellow gardeners.  
If you find it useful against other insect pests, please let me know so that we can pass that on too.

Remember, Aspartatme is a nerve poison - which is why we are fighting so hard to get it OUT of the food supply, where it constitutes and abomination and never had a right to be.  
So treat it carefully, as you would any other POISON.

We live in the woods and carpenter ants are a huge problem.  We have spent thousands of dollars with Orkin and on ant poisons trying to keep them under control but nothing has helped.

So when I read somewhere that aspartame *(NutraSweet)* was actually developed as an ant poison and changed to being considered non-poisonous after it was realized that a lot more money could be made on it as a sweetener than as an ant poison, I decided to give it a try.

I opened two packets of aspartame sweetener, and dumped one in a corner  of each of our bathrooms .  That was about 2 years ago and I have not  seen any carpenter ants for about 9 to 12 months.  It works better than the most deadly poisons I have tried.  Any time they show up again, I simply dump another package of NutraSweet in a corner, and they will be gone for a year or so again.

Since posting this information I have had many people tell me of their success solving ant problems with this substance, when nothing else worked.    I found later that small black ants would not eat the aspartame.  It was determined that if you mixed it with apple juice, they would quickly take it back to the nest, and all would be dead within 24 hours, usually. I have found that sometimes it will kill them, and sometimes it does not.  Not sure why, may be slightly different species of ants or  something.

Fire Ants:  We got our first fire ant hill about 2 weeks ago.  Poison did not work.  We tried aspartame and the ants ignored it until we  got a light rain.  It was just a sprinkle, enough to moisten the NutraSweet and ground, but not enough to wash it away.  They went crazy, hundreds of them grabbing it and taking it back into the mound.  When I checked the mound 2 days later, there was no sign of the fire ants.  I even dug the  mound up, and still saw none of them.

How does it Work:
*Aspartame is a neuropoison.*  It most likely kills the ants by interfering with their nervous system.  It could be direct, like stopping their heart, or something more subtle like killing their sense of taste so they can't figure out what is edible, or smell, so they can't follow their trails, or mis- identify their colonies members, so they start fighting each other.  Not sure what causes them to end up dying, just know that for many species of ants it will kill them quickly and effectively.
As with any poison I recommend wearing gloves and washing any skin areas that come in contact with this poison, and avoid  getting it in your mouth, despite anything the labeling may indicate.  It is a neuropioson!!!!!

(NaturalNews)  A new law proposed by the European Commission would make it illegal to "grow, reproduce or trade" any vegetable seeds that have not been "tested, approved and accepted" by a new EU bureaucracy named the "EU Plant Variety Agency."

It's called the Plant Reproductive Material Law, and it attempts to put the government in charge of virtually all plants and seeds.  Home gardeners who grow their own plants from non-regulated seeds would be considered criminals under this law.

"This law will immediately stop the professional development of vegetable varieties for home gardeners, organic growers, and small-scale market farmers," said Ben Gabel, vegetable breeder and director of The Real Seed Catalogue. "Home gardeners have really different needs - for example they grow by hand, not machine, and can't or don't want to use such powerful chemical sprays. There's no way to register the varieties suitable for home use as they don't meet the strict criteria of the Plant Variety Agency, which is only concerned about approving the sort of seed used by industrial farmers."

Under Title IV of the proposed EU law:

The varieties, in order to be made available on the market throughout the Union, shall be included in a national register or in the Union register via direct application procedure to the CVPO.

Gardeners must also pay fees to the EU bureaucracy for the registration of their seeds.  From the proposed law text:

The competent authorities and the CPVO should charge fees for the processing of
applications, the formal and technical examinations including audits, variety denomination, and the maintenance of the varieties for each year for the duration of the registration.

It is for those citizens who believe we all have the right of autonomy in our own homes, the right to decide and choose for ourselves how we live and what risks we sustain within the sanctuary of our private residence.

This Notice forms the request to the BC Liberals and BC Hydro to honour our right to live without harassment and in peace in our own homes, in accordance with our Charter of Rights and Freedoms, as enshrined in the Canadian Constitution.

France Bans Wi-Fi & Fracking Blow! April 17/13

France Bans Wi-Fi from Schools ~

Great news with one small concern, how quick do the systems actually get removed and 'until it is proven safe'    Which is a big wide open door to whatever bought and paid for agency deems wi-fi safe.

Nonetheless, we can all be happy for kids and teachers in France!

These developments can never be underestimated.  Nothing like this happens without tonnes of hard work, most often for free, under intense ridicule by Industry, fellow parents and even sometimes teachers.

We can only hope that the people across the board, teachers, parents and other advocates can get the same done here.  I have no doubt this will happen.  Simply because there is a safe alternative and secondly because of the caliber of people here we know working on this issue night and day.

Awareness on this topic is really growing, some have laid the foundations long ago, others just picking it up.

Please, if you can, forward this to family and friends, the dangers are very real of course as most of you know.

I am sure I am speaking for so many of the other people out there that are fighting this, that if you don't have the info/research on effects, how to start being more active against this etc. we ALL would be happy to help.

France Bans Wi-Fi from Schools — We Should All Do the Same

As many of you know, I’ve long been concerned about Wi-Fi radiation in schools.  In fact, I’m part of a Canadian coalition called Doctors for Safer Schools.  That’s an interest that caught my attention years ago while visiting my son Drew in Canada where he introduced me to many people whose children developed health issues in schools since Wi-Fi had been installed.   Meanwhile, their symptoms (commonly headaches, lightheadedness, and palpitations), were alleviated on the weekends and during school vacations.  This is anecdotal evidence so far, but more research is underway.

Given this background, you can imagine how thrilled I was to hear that France made a move to remove Wi-Fi radiation from their schools.  On March 19, the French National Assembly passed an amendment to ban Wi-Fi in their schools until its proven “safe for human consumption.”   nstead, they agreed to install far saver, wired Ethernet cable connections.

This is a wise move that supports the “precautionary principal”— erring on the side of caution when there’s no evidence of safety.  Meanwhile the telecom industry is operating with the assumption that with Wi-Fi there’s no proof of harm.  Yet, we have a lot of evidence that these frequencies do in fact affect the human body.

We already know, for example, that radiation generated by cell phones penetrates the less protected, and still developing, brain of a child to a much greater degree than it does an adult.  We also have research that shows cell phone bases provoke cardiac arrhythmias.  Plus, the studies continue to roll in.

To make matters worse, school Wi-Fi systems are industrial strength compared to what we have in our homes:  they are so much stronger!  Routers mounted in hallways and other locations can blast that signal through as much as 18 inches of cinderblock.  But the trouble with home routers is that they’re constantly pulsing to keep the signal, exposing us to Wi-Fi radiation 24 hours a day—even when we’re sleeping.

So, what can we do to protect ourselves and our families from Wi-Fi radiation?

Hardwire your connection: Use an Ethernet cable for your computer connection to avoid EMFs, and disable the built-in Wi-Fi once you have an Ethernet connection.  If you’re not able to switch to an Ethernet connection, use an extension connection on your Wi-Fi network plug-in to keep it at a better distance from your body.

Only turn on your router during periods of actual internet usage, and then turn it off.  Plus, walk away from your computer when downloading large of amounts of data on Wi-Fi.

Turn cell phone Wi-Fi on only when accessing Wi-Fi.  Otherwise, turn it off just as you would when putting it in “airplane mode.”

Turn laptops off when charging if the built-in Wi-Fi is on.  Plus, never use a laptop on your lap, and instead place it on a table away from you.  If you are pregnant, shield your baby with a product like Belly Armour.

Limit the time you spend in places with Wi-Fi, such as coffee shops.

Be an advocate in your neighborhood—educating your school system about the dangers of Wi-Fi. Plus, make your voice known if mast towers are going up in your neighborhood.  These are huge money-makers for the mast tower owners, but the money isn’t worth the health risks.

Let’s face it, technology is here to stay.  Wi-Fi has even climbed aboard airplanes and trains, and there is controversy stirring about the effect it’s having on pilots and crews.  So, practice Sinatra-Safe Wi-Fi to protect yourself and your family as much as possible—and please share any Wi-Fi tips that you have.
